This is a Gloucestershire Postcard - Icomb Round Tower SW20495
This old postcard depicts the Icomb Round Tower, also known as Guy's Folly, which was located near the village of Icomb in Gloucestershire, England.
The tower stood on high ground to the west of what is now the A424 between Stow on the Wold and Burford. It was affectionately known as Guy's Folly, and on early Ordnance Survey maps, it was even named "Guys Tower".
Local histories suggest it was built by a Mr. Guy, possibly to look out for French invaders, although its primary function was likely as an ornamental folly or an eye-catcher within a country estate. It was also known as a "lock-up," used to temporarily hold local troublemakers.
Sadly, this notable folly was demolished in the 1970s to make way for a BBC transmission mast, which now occupies its former site.
