HMS Pigmy (1888) served on the China Station in Asia around the turn of the 20th century, where she was active during the Boxer Rebellion.
HMS Pigmy (1888) was a British Royal Navy composite screw gunboat, a member of the six-vessel Pigmy-class. She was built at Sheerness Dockyard and served for nearly two decades before being sold in 1905
Service in China
- Deployment to China: Pigmy was commissioned in July 1889 and by 1890 had been deployed to China. The China Station was a prestigious posting for Royal Navy vessels at the time, responsible for protecting British interests across East Asia.
- Boxer Rebellion: Naval records show that Pigmy was "serving in Chinese waters during the Boxer Rebellion" on June 19, 1900. The conflict, which lasted from 1899 to 1901, involved an anti-foreign and anti-Christian uprising in China. During this period, the Royal Navy was an active participant in protecting foreign legations and nationals.
