This Edwardian-era color portrait depicts Tom Hayward, the legendary opening batsman who played for Surrey County Cricket Club and England. Captured standing at a pavilion entrance holding his cricket bat, Hayward was one of the most prolific run-scorers of the sport's golden age, famously scoring over one hundred first-class centuries. The portrait, produced from a photograph by E. Hawkins & Co. of Brighton, highlights the classic whites and traditional cap worn by elite turn-of-the-century athletes.
